Parrot For Sale

Raising a parrot as a pet can prove to be a wonderful experience. Aside from their colorful plumage and their talent to copy their master’s speech, parrots are also known for their problem solving abilities and their uncanny ability to perform tricks. But even though parrots can easily be bought from your friendly neighborhood pet shop, you need to understand that there are a few things you need to consider before you can take your new pet home. Here’s a short guide on the 3 things you need to watch out for when looking at parrots for sale.

The Parrot’s Habitat

First, you need to take a look at the parrot’s habitat in the store. Check if the parrot is being kept in a cage appropriate for its size, in an environment that is being cleaned regularly. You should also look around to see if the parrot is constantly being stimulated by all sorts of different toys. Parrots need to be constantly stimulated mentally in order to become well rounded pets.  If you think that the parrots you’re looking at seem to be passive, lack energy, or look generally bored, you might want to move on to another pet store.

The Parrot’s Diet

Next, ask the parrot’s breeder or the store owner about its current diet. Contrary to what most people believe, Parrots can’t thrive on seeds alone. They require a balanced diet which should include healthy servings of fresh fruits and vegetables in order to be at the peak of health. Do try to come in at different times just to see what kind of food the parrots are being fed. If all you find is a handful of seeds or a piece of rotten fruit any time during those visits, by all means, avoid the pet shop or the breeder immediately.

The Parrot’s Breeder or Caretaker

Lastly, don’t forget to observe the parrots’ breeder or caretaker. Don’t hesitate to ask as many questions as you can, especially those that you feel will help you care for your pet properly. Observe the way he or she handles the parrot and try to keep mental notes of the parrot’s reactions and quirks, if any is mentioned. if the parrot’s breeder or caretaker can’t be bothered to teach you the basics of parrot care, or seems disinterested in the well being of their parrots for sale, by all means, walk away. There’s a big chance that you won’t find what you’re looking for there.

So there you have it. Now that you have a better understanding of the different warning signs you need to keep in mind when looking at parrots for sale, you’ll be able to save yourself from all the stress of taking care of an unhealthy or problematic parrot in the end.  Try to avoid the common mistakes that other parrot owners have made in the past so that you don’t end up experiencing buyer’s remorse. So long as you stay vigilant and do your research, you’re sure to find yourself a healthy parrot pet in no time.
